Not sure if this is typical of a good Australian summer or not, but it still feels too cool to me. Storms all day today and not much chance to really get out there in amongst it. So here’s a safe shot from a safe position. Obviously focus here is on the textures and shape of these storm clouds. I had to use quite a fast shutter speed with a small aperture to achieve the depth required while freezing these fast moving clouds and the wind through the trees. A shame I couldn’t have caught the movement of the rain…
Day Ten
10 December 2011
Well I almost uploaded another sunrise photo but then recalled the brief – 90 Daze of Summer – and so I thought I best post a cliché summer image for us Australians. On our end of the globe when the Bottle Brushes (Callistemon spp.) start to bloom you know that Summer’s here and that Christmas is just around the corner.
Before folks question my PPing here, and wonder whether they are really this red…well actually they are even redder. If anything I subdued the saturation a little to emphasise the dappled light. Hope I didn’t lose any of the spirit of this iconic Australian native summer bloom.
Day Nine
9 December 2011
Here’s one of the older more ‘reliable’ boys posing for a portrait. Yes, yes, it is a horse….and no the ears back is not such a great sign. I think it became a little tired of my being in his face with such a short lens…and just maybe he feared it would distort his face and make his nose look big?
Day Eight
8 December 2011
Stumbled upon this scene down a side alley of a very photogenic little village. Many frames turned out well – albeit a little cliché – and I might share those down the track. But I chose this one for my Dazed shot of the day. Why? Well to be honest I’m not quite sure! However there is something about the textures and tones that I like but also the story. I am especially intrigued by the walking stick poised at the ready upon exiting.
Day Seven
Day Six
6 December 2011
Summer generally turns one’s thoughts to beer. And here I have two major ingredients almost at the ready – hops and water, with my prize plant growing rampantly beside the water tank. Though as you can see, it’s still not beer drinking weather yet. It remains cold and miserable. I know Summer will arrive shortly, and then we will drink in earnest.
Oddly enough the sticky distraction in the bottom left hand corner is my grape vine. It looks pretty sorry, a shame because it’s more the weather for red…really!
Day Five
Day Four
4 December 2011
Had some great Spring rains and sunshine of late. Early summer now and the grass is high. Waist height. Looks like we might be in of more wet weather, especially if you believe the old tale that when cows lie down rains on the way. Well the girls were certainly lying down, and the clouds might betray some heavy falls. However, what a photo fails to show are the moments before that fraction of a second.
The whole herd have spent the entire morning chomping on that pasture as if it’s about to de-materialise any second – to be consumed by a locust plague of biblical proportions. So I think this girls lying down has less to do with being a rural barometer and more to do with being a little too content.
I mean just look at that expression on her face!
